Cardigan Boys of Color (C.B.O.C.)

2021-Present

In 2021, Gabe founded Cardigan Boys of Color (C.B.O.C.), a pioneering initiative aimed at creating a supportive community for boys of color at Cardigan Mountain School. As a biracial student navigating the complexities of racial identity in predominantly white spaces, Gabe saw the need for a safe space where boys of color could connect, share their experiences, and engage in important conversations about race, racism, and inclusivity. This vision gave birth to C.B.O.C.: a group dedicated to fostering dialogue, building community, and advocating for change.

Under Gabe’s leadership, C.B.O.C. quickly grew beyond just a discussion group. The boys met weekly to explore topics such as unconscious bias, systemic racism, and how to cultivate a more inclusive environment at Cardigan. Each meeting was meticulously prepared, with Gabe sending out thought-provoking readings and discussion topics beforehand to ensure meaningful engagement. The group tackled a wide range of subjects, from the impact of the Confederate flag to the legacy of slavery and the justice system, all while fostering an environment of mutual respect and growth.

C.B.O.C. has laid the foundation for long-lasting change, with Gabe’s leadership ensuring that the group continues to grow and inspire others. His commitment to fostering inclusivity and amplifying the voices of boys of color has resonated throughout the Cardigan community, and his efforts will have a lasting impact for years to come. Through C.B.O.C., Gabe has shown that leadership is not just about taking charge—it’s about listening, learning, and empowering others to take action.
